About
The Bohemian, formerly known as the Stage Door, is Eastbourne’s new all-day pub and late-night music venue.
Located just a stone’s throw away from the seafront in the Devonshire Quarter, Eastbourne’s theatreland, the pub takes its inspiration from its architecture and cultural surroundings, with a real sense of a life well-travelled, with lots of influences and memorabilia from across Europe. The refit has also seen the creation of some new snugs, one with a wrap-around sofa and collection of travel books, and another with a chess table and choice of other board games.
The bar food includes some great pub classics, from a juicy burger to a mighty fish roll, chicken wings and Padron peppers. The main menu has a European twist, from bavette steaks to Toulouse sausages, chicken schnitzel and even an indulgent cheese fondue – you don’t get much more Bohemian than that!
The kitchen is open for lunch every day between 12pm and 3pm, with dinner served from 5pm Monday to Saturday. The beer offer is just as diverse, from local Long Man ales to fruity and non-alcoholic lines on tap, and lots of eclectic bottles from the continent. It also stocks the best of local and European spirits, with some curious and wonderful flavours, and a great choice of Sussex sparkling wines.
Its characterful and spacious new interiors play host to a regular programme of music, from jazz every Thursday, to some of Sussex’s best bands and vinyl DJs on Friday, and happy house and funk on Saturdays. The pub also boasts a record player (choose what you like from their vinyl collection) and a baby grand, which anyone can use and has been attracting some great local talent. The house pianist takes requests over Sunday lunch too.
Most of all, this new pub is a great place to meet – whether that’s for a coffee, end-of day-catch up with friends, or a night out at the weekend. Head on down to Compton Street to try it for yourselves!
