Go ‘Behind the Seams’ with Culture & Conversations Talks
2nd August 2022
There’s an opportunity to take a journey through Eastbourne’s fashion history at the next ‘Culture and Conversations’ event in August.
Historian Katherine Buckland will be unravelling the stories behind the style at Heritage Eastbourne’s monthly talk on Saturday 27 August.
Katherine will reveal that you really ‘are what you wear’ and how the clothes that people wore and fashion choices they made, can give clues about who they were, as well as who they were not.
The ‘Culture & Conversation’ talks look at a variety of aspects of social history and heritage each month.
Annie Wills, Head of Tourism & Culture said “Eastbourne is such a special part of the country, and it is wonderful to be able to celebrate and reveal the many layers behind our unique heritage, all in the superb setting of our historic Devonshire Park.
“The talks really are fascinating, and I would urge people to go along and discover more about the interesting history right here on our doorstep.”
At the following month’s talk – on Saturday 3 September - Lizzie Williams features some of the stories of Beachy Head with ‘Looting, Lighthouses and Larks’ in a look at the unique history surrounding one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks.
Tickets to each talk costs £5 per person and take place from 2pm–3.30pm in the top floor Hardwick Suite of the International Lawn Tennis Centre in Devonshire Park.
Ticket holders can also pick up a hot drink and cake from the DQ Terrace Bar & Cafe to enjoy before, during or after the talk for just £4, in an exclusive Heritage Eastbourne deal for visitors on the day.
