2018 brought a major research project based around the Centenary of the Representation of the Peoples Act that gave the right to vote to around 40% of British women in 1918.
Volunteers helped us to discover the everyday stories of women in Eastbourne over the last 100 years and prove that what can be described as the 'ordinary' can often the most remarkable.

By using the example of one families' history as a starting point, we will reveal how life has developed for women within the Borough due to the changes that this act started.
We will also explore whether is is actually the legal rights of women or changing atitudes of society that have enabled change to happen.
