Learn & Discover with Heritage Eastbourne
We love working with schools and run a great outreach programme. All education resources are tailored to meet the national curriculum using our excellent collections to cover subjects from pre-history to World War II.
Outreach sessions
We visit schools in the East Sussex area to run discussion based outreach sessions bringing the museum to you, exploring and uncovering the story of Eastbourne and the surrounding area. We bring artefacts from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Romans, Saxons, Tudors, Victorians, World War One and Two and a variety of things in between all from the Eastbourne and surrounding areas
We also offer practical activities including, Saxon shoe making, pottery making and fire making (lots of fun and not nearly as dangerous as it sounds!) as well as Stone Age weaving, Bronze Age felting and more! Each session is tailored to your needs and requirements.

Loan Boxes
We offer a range of inspirational Loans Boxes for schools and groups to borrow allowing pupils to get up close to real and replica artefacts.
The boxes contain information sheets, a selection of suggested learning activities (including printable worksheets/other materials) relevant to the period of history/objects in the loan box and, where possible, links to online 3d versions of relevant objects so they can be explored digitally.
The boxes also feature a short film accessed online to explore the relevant bit of Eastbourne’s history.
A live but remote Q&A session with one of the Heritage team for approx. 30 mins on Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or similar so the children can ask any follow up questions can be arranged at a time to suit you.
The loan period will run for 1 week at a time (multiple weeks can be booked). A charge of £40 will apply for the loan box, learning activities and short film with an extra £20 for each Q&A session.
