Dog Friendly Walks

With so many different places to venture out to and explore, Eastbourne is a haven for our four-legged companions. Most of the walks in our programme of events are suitable for Dogs, but this will be decided by each walk leader and mentioned within the walk description.

Our Self-Guided Walks are all suitable for dog owners to bring their furry friends along, and we've put together some guidance on this page for responsible dog ownership.

Eastbourne Beaches

The pier to the Wish Tower are the main resort beaches, which offer the following facilities:

• Clean bathing water
• Lifeguards and First Aid Post
• Kids wristbands and safe bathing zone
• Showers and toilets
• Bathing cabins and beach huts
• Deckchairs and sun loungers

Pier to the Wish Tower

From 1st May to 30th September dogs are banned from these beaches. Outside of this time frame, they are permitted on these beaches on leads.

The Pier to Wish Tower beaches are recommended by the Marine Conservation Society in the Good Beach Guide.

Holywell and Falling Sands

This section of coastline provides rock pools full of marine life at low tide, pretty gardens and the dramatic chalk cliffs of Falling Sands.

Dogs are welcome on these beaches but must be kept under control.

Holywell and Falling Sands beaches are recommended by the Marine Conservation Society in the Good Beach Guide.

East Beach

Beaches East of the Pier to the harbour are lined with various tourist attractions and are also popular for water sports. It must be noted some of the beaches in this section are working beaches and not suitable for bathing.

From 1 May to 30 September, dogs must be kept on leads at all times and are banned from the main resort beach (Wish Tower to Pier).

Other Areas

Dogs must be kept on a lead all year round in the following areas:   

• Manor Gardens               

• Motcombe Gardens

• Lakeside area of Hampden Park and Princes Park      

• Howard Square

• Wilmington Square
• Grassed cliff top areas adjoining King Edwards Parade
• The grounds of Ocklynge Cemetery
• The Crematorium and Cemetery at Hide Hollow, Langney

Lost Dogs
