Gilbert and Sullivan's THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE

Directed by Donna Stirrup, Conducted by Martin Handley

Gilbert and Sullivan’s touching masterpiece with a 50 strong company of international singers and the size of orchestra Sullivan wanted.

The story of a pirate’s apprentice who falls head-over-heels in love with the daughter of Major-General to hilariously silly consequences.

Directed by Glyndebourne favourite Donna Stirrup and conducted by BBC Radio 3 presenter Martin Handley. Together they allow Gilbert and Sullivan to speak as richly as they intended.

Nearly 150 years after first playing in New York City, The Pirates of Penzance remains one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular works, with adaptations over the years winning many awards including a Tony Award for Best Revival and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical. It contains some of their most memorable melodies including ‘I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General’ and ‘A Policeman’s Lot is Not a Happy One’ and remains one of the most frequently played Gilbert and Sullivan operas.

Jump aboard for a joyfully comedic pirate adventure.

Cast includes Barry Clark, George Curnow, Jonathan Eyrs, Yvonne Howard, Ellie Laugharne and Matthew Siveter.
