The Princess of Trebizonde

About

Opéra-bouffe by Jacques Offenbach

NSO Chorus, St Paul’s Sinfonia, Conductor Toby Purser, Director / Designer Tony Baker, Choreographer Eleanor Strutt.

Cast includes Chiara Vinci (Zanetta), Anthony Flaum (Tremolini), Paul Featherstone (Casimir), Simon Thorpe (Cabriolo).

Live opera, fully staged, sung in a new English translation

All the wonderfully zany ingredients of a neglected French masterpiece with sparkling music – outrageous fun. In a traveling circus, the dancer Zanetta dusts a waxwork of Princess Trébizonde and accidentally breaks off its nose. She has no choice but to install herself in its position and impersonate the statue. A visiting prince arrives and, naturally, falls in love with the “waxwork”… A talented cast bring this hilarious farce to life.
