Eastbourne Downs Golf Course Reopens
15th May 2020
Eastbourne Downs Golf Course reopens today, following the change in government Covid-19 guidelines, which now allows for extended exercise and participation in some sports.
The 18 hole course is reopening to both existing and new members, with strict guidelines ensuring social distancing, such as operating only one ball and two ball tee times.
The course has been able to reopen quickly thanks to Greenkeepers who have continued to maintain and protect the greens throughout the closure, all while adhering to social distancing measures.
Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said “Our fantastic Greenkeepers have kept busy throughout the closure and our greens have never looked better! This continuous maintenance both here and at many of our other venues, has meant we are ready to open as soon as the government advice allows us to do so.
Golf is a wonderful sport for cardio-vascular exercise, a superb stress reliever and a great way to enjoy the great outdoors. For those who don’t already play, this current downtime is the ideal opportunity to join now and start playing tomorrow, for some brilliant stress-free exercise, all with the most stunning views across Eastbourne and the Downs.”
Members will be required to book tee times in advance, and should only play alone or with one other person, with course times open initially from 8am – 5pm. Three and four ball tee times will also be available soon for members from the same household.
The club house will remain closed for the time being, with plans to reopen next week offering a take away food and drink service.
Membership is available at £720 per year with a variety of discounted youth memberships ranging from £25 for the under 15’s to £525 for those aged 26 – 30 years old.
