Put Best Feet Forward for Eastbourne Walking Festival
11th July 2022
Booking has now opened for the Eastbourne Walking Festival – a 10-day celebration of the great outdoors – which returns in September.
Walking enthusiasts and novices alike can choose from a selection of the most interesting urban and rural walks, all free, ranging from guided tours of Eastbourne’s promenade all the way to Downland rambles and historical sightseeing.
The festival – from 16-25 September 2022 - acts as a springboard to promoting the health and wellbeing benefits of discovering walking as a way of life and is designed to inspire walkers to find the time to rediscover the great outdoors, providing something for everyone despite age or mobility with numerous self-guided walks that people can take part in as and when they wish.
Walks this year include Folkington Frolic (a five-mile level walk from Willingdon to Folkington and back); the Development of Victorian Eastbourne (a two-mile historical guided walk); an Ocklynge Cemetery Walk looking at graves of people of interest; Downland Birds and Butterflies (a six kilometre walk from East Dean discovering late summer butterflies and Downland birds; and Let’s Go Fishing – a flat walk from Cophall Roundabout through fields and the Cuckoo Trail and passing lakes.
The festival also aims to promote engagement in appreciation and conservation of the natural world from plant life to animal and marine life, whilst improving the health and wellbeing of participants in the short term and the long.
Eastbourne Borough Council’s Walking Champion Gill Mattock said, “This year's walking festival gives people the opportunity to experience the very best of our town and countryside with over 50 walks to choose from. All our volunteer walk leaders are expert guides who will share their knowledge with you as you go.
If you like being out and about or just want to learn a bit more about our town's history there is sure to be a walk or two that appeals. Have a look at the website www.eastbournewalkingfestival.co.uk. Once you have found a walk that you like the look of, click through to get yourself a ticket. You will then receive an email confirming your place on this walk.”
