Christmas is coming to Eastbourne!
18th November 2022
The countdown to Christmas is officially on! The coming weeks will see Eastbourne Town Centre transform into a hive of festive activity comprising Christmas shopping events, markets, ice skating and so much more.
The star on top of Eastbourne’s Christmas tree, the Lightning Fibre Ice Rink opens from 1 December – 8 January. Supported by Official Travel Partner Southern and located at the Enterprise Shopping centre, the real ice rink will be surrounded by the twinkling lights and wooden cabin market stalls of Winterland with a wide selection of gifts available alongside tasty food and drink stalls, the Winterland Bar and at weekends a Santa’s grotto. With it’s close proximity to the train station, it’s the perfect excuse to leave the car at home and get into the festive spirit with a glass of mulled wine!
Marking the start of the festivities, 24 November will see the big Christmas light switch on from Bankers Corner on Terminus Road. Featuring an interactive Christmas tree, there will also be a vegan market and craft fair from 10am – 8pm accompanied by children’s rides, with live music from 3pm – 8pm.
Little Chelsea’s Festive Fun and Fireworks night will declare Christmas shopping season open with a bang on 1 December. Filled with independent shops and eateries, shoppers can enjoy live music, children’s rides and entertainment from 4pm with a glittering firework finale.
Get ready for a magical afternoon or evening filled with fun, laughter and surprises at the Devonshire Park Theatre’s brilliant Aladdin pantomime from 9 December – 15 January.
Christmas market magic will be coming to Terminus Road with the Festive French Market bringing treats from the continent on 2 December and the traditional Christmas Market from 15 – 18 December.
Eastbourne Borough Council’s Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Culture Margaret Bannister said, “The festive season is upon us and there is so much to do in Eastbourne.
From traditional markets, Christmas lights and of course the fantastic ice rink, with Eastbourne train station located right in the heart of the festivities, whether you’re visiting Eastbourne for a seasonal break away or popping into town to soak up the Christmas spirit, travelling by train is a no brainer!”
Chris Fowler, Customer Services Director at Southern, said: “It’s great to be the official travel partner for the Christmas Ice Rink in Eastbourne for the second year.
The Lightning Fibre Ice Rink is right outside of Eastbourne station, making it a great destination to travel to by train. Families can benefit from great savings including Kids for £2 and Group Save. Find out more at www.southernrailway.com.”
The fun isn’t limited to the town centre! Meads Magic will host street entertainers, Santa’s Grotto and a whole host of festive activities on 25 November and the annual Sovereign Shines event will return to Sovereign Harbour on 9 December filled with live performances, a market and more, followed by a Santa Stroll on 10 December.
