Council Encourages Residents to Explore Eastbourne With New Cycling Event
4th June 2020
Eastbourne Borough Council marked World Bicycle Day (3 June) with the announcement of their brand new event, The Eastbourne Big Bike Ride.
Taking place on 22 – 28 June the free community event encourages residents to choose from one of the suggested cycling routes or to simply pick up their bike and start exploring Eastbourne on two wheels for themselves.
Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Enterprise, Councillor Margaret Bannister said “The Eastbourne Big Bike Ride is a fantastic new addition to Eastbourne’s events calendar.
Cycling is a brilliant form of exercise for all ages and the perfect way to enjoy the great outdoors for the whole family. The routes suggested suit a wide range of riders, from the more experienced to first time cyclists, and are an excellent way to explore our town from a new perspective.
With no registration or ‘start time’ to attend, cyclists are able to simply select one of the suggested routes during the event, or choose a route of their own, and start pedalling! This flexibility also allows riders to comply with government guidance, including social distancing measures, while enjoying the event at a time that is convenient to them.”
Participants are encouraged to take photos along their chosen route with prizes up for grabs for the best photos in each of the following categories: ‘Best Themed Outfit’, ‘Scenic Selfie’, ‘Household Photo’ and ‘Newcomers (children)’. Entries can be made by sharing photos during the event on social media with the hashtag #ebbigbikeride or directly within The Eastbourne Big Bike Ride Facebook event page.
Ensuring the safety of cyclists is paramount and all riders are advised to wear helmets while participating in the event. For more information, including suggested cycle routes and additional safety advice, visit www.visiteastbourne.com/big-bike-ride
