Lifeguard Courses in Eastbourne for Children this Summer
13th July 2022
Lifeguard courses teaching youngsters how to stay safe on the beach will be run this summer in Eastbourne.
The Tyro Lifeguard courses are for 8-14-year-olds and take place on selected Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer holidays in August.
The sessions, run by the Eastbourne Beach Lifeguard team, are a fun way for young people to learn about beach safety, personal survival, basic First Aid, boat and surf safety equipment, sun safety and rescue skills.
Led by the qualified and experienced team, the courses teach youngsters all the skills they need to enjoy time spent on or near the water.
The courses are run at the Lifeguard Station on Lower Grand Parade near the Wish Tower and the cost of a session is £18.
Councillor Margaret Bannister, Eastbourne Borough Council’s Lead Member for Tourism and Culture, said, “Staying safe by the sea is essential and the Tyro Lifeguard course is designed to not only provide youngsters with these vital skills, but also have a lot of fun at the same time.”
The sessions are Thursdays 4 and 11 August and Tuesdays 9, 16 and 23 August. The courses are 10am-1pm or 2pm-5pm.
Children must be able to swim 100 metres unaided and should bring swimwear or wetsuits, beach shoes, towel, a snack and drink.
