Lifeguard service to resume on Eastbourne’s beaches
2nd June 2020
Eastbourne Lifeguard services are due to resume from Saturday 30th May. The decision has been made following a rise in numbers of visitors to Eastbourne’s beaches due to the increasingly warm weather.
Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Enterprise, Councillor Margaret Bannister said “Given the fantastic weather that Eastbourne has seen in recent days, increasing numbers of people are heading out for a swim in the sea as part of their daily exercise.
With this great weather forecast to continue, ensuring the safety of swimmers is paramount and being able to bring our fantastic team of lifeguards back on duty means the residents of Eastbourne can rest assured that they are being taken care of.
Whilst the lifeguard service is resuming, we would like to encourage the public to remain vigilant of the tides and conditions whenever they are entering or swimming in the sea.”
To ensure lifeguard duties are able to be carried out in a manner that is safe for staff and the public, adaptations to operations have been made following advice from Public Health England, UK Search and Rescue, and Resuscitation Council (UK).
All Eastbourne Lifeguard staff will receive additional training with adaptations to operations including the set-up, pack-down and general day-to-day running of the service as well as emergency responses and providing the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.
Beach goers are asked to continue observing social distancing measures, maintaining a 2 metre distance from anyone not part of their household at all times.
