Beachy Head Celebrates the Arrival of Spring with Free Festival
27th January 2022
Beachy Head will celebrate the changing of the seasons with a new Spring festival this February.
The Spring Rise Festival from 14 – 20 February, will celebrate the natural landscape of the South Downs National Park and the emerging spring season with a range of activities from wildlife walks, craft workshops and photography to folk inspired puppetry and even graffiti.
With pre-bookable activities based out of The Beachy Head Story visitor centre throughout the day and evening, the free festival also includes the chance to help create an amazing nature inspired outdoor artwork with a graffiti artist.
Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Member for Tourism and Culture, Councillor Margaret Bannister said “Beachy Head is a fascinating attraction any time of year, and as the nights begin to get lighter, this is the perfect time to step into the great outdoors and enjoy the beauty of our landscape and perhaps even learn a new skill too.
For families, this is also a brilliant way to keep the kids entertained this half term with some fun activities and perhaps discover a bit more about our natural history too.”
The free festival is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, via the government’s Welcome Back Fund, designed to welcome back visitors to destinations following the pandemic.
With activities day and night, visitors can also enjoy the star-studded night sky due to Beachy Head’s Dark Sky Reserve location, as well as some night time wildlife walks with experienced guides.
As well as pre-booking free activities, visitors to the festival can also visit the free exhibition at the Beachy Head Story and learn more about the history of the iconic landmark which started 90 million years ago. A free photography exhibition ‘Through the Aperture: The View from Here’ is also available to view until 31 March.
The Spring Rise Festival runs from 14 – 20 February at The Beachy Head Story, with free ticketed entry. Free tickets will be available to book from 1 February.
