Eastbourne Borough Council Announces Tourist Information Centre Relocation
24th August 2020
Eastbourne Borough Council has today (21 August) confirmed that the Tourist Information Centre will be relocated from it’s current location in Cornfield Road to the Welcome Building at the Devonshire Quarter.
Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Enterprise, Councillor Margaret Bannister said “Since it’s opening in 1990 we have been dedicated to providing state of the art services at Eastbourne’s Tourist Information Centre, ensuring that the way in which we supply information has continued to evolve. However, as the use of the digital world has increased over recent years, the Cornfield Road location has experienced a steady decrease in footfall.
In addition to this, funding cuts by central government to local authorities has further jeopardised the future of our Tourist Information Centre.
We recognise the essential services that the Tourist Information Centre provides. In order to continue offering these services the decision has been made to create a new Visitor Services team, within the Welcome Building, at the Devonshire Quarter.
This relocation will allow us to combine EBC's Tourism visitor services into one multifunctional team. They will continue to have a wealth of information available for both residents and tourists, while significantly reducing the cost of these services.
Over the past 30 years we have welcomed over 5 million visitors to our Tourist Information Centre and we are looking forward to serving even more for years to come.”
Eastbourne’s new Visitor Centre will re-open in the Welcome Building at 10am on 7 September and will continue to offer the same services from it’s new location, including ticket sales for Eastbourne Bandstand, theatres, third party events, bus tickets and National Express, alongside souvenirs.
