Ice Rink Undergoes Big Freeze in Time for Launch
30th November 2022
The Eastbourne Lightning Fibre Ice Rink has been flooded with water over the weekend, as Eastbourne’s number one Christmas attraction undergoes a big freeze prior to its magical opening this week.
The rink, which is significantly bigger than before, was specially flooded with the help of the team at Your Eastbourne BID and is now undergoing several days of icy temperatures and smoothing out, to provide the perfect skating surface when the rink opens at 10am on Thursday.
With many sessions close to selling out, the team are anticipating a busy season ahead with skaters encouraged to book in advance and take advantage of lower prices.
Chief Executive of Your Eastbourne BID, Stephen Holt said “Last year many of our sessions sold out, right through to the final day of opening in January, so now is the time to book and ensure you don’t miss out on your festive skate with family or friends. Plus, its cheaper to book in advance, and with prices held at 2021 rates and great value family tickets on offer, it’s a winner all round.”
After adding additional space on the ice this year, the rink has also extended the site with a larger viewing area, a new separate skate hire and locker area, even more magical decorations surrounding the glamourous glitter ball, and the new Bucklers Winter Bar with cosy wood cabins in a twinkly setting – open to non-skaters too.
Winterland also returns with wooden cabins offering gift ideas from handmade goods and crafty gifts to locally sourced produce and food and drink including Bratwurst, mulled wine and Christmas dinner Yorkshire pudding wraps at the bar.
Eastbourne’s Lightning Fibre Ice Rink opens from 1 December to 8 January at Eastbourne Enterprise Centre, open from 10am to 8pm (10am to 10pm weekends).
The rink is organised by Your Eastbourne BID and sponsored by Lightning Fibre, the Enterprise Shopping Centre, Visit Eastbourne, PRG Marketing & Communications, Booksy and the official travel partner Southern.
Tickets cost just £12 per adult, £8 per child or £30 per family, with skate hire included.
This year sees a series of new sessions at the rink with reduced numbers for serious skaters, while at all other sessions the popular Booksy penguin skate aids will once again be available to hire for children and for those who need a little extra support.
